Our Founder

Computer remarketing veteran Betsy Shields launched Breakaway Technologies in 1992 to fill a market need for quality used computer equipment at discount prices. Her extensive leasing background gives her unique insights into technology assets that are three to five years old. She opened the company's current facility in 1999 when she recognized a gap in services providing reliable testing, auditing and wiping drives.

One of the great things about starting your own company is that you get to name it. Betsy is a die-hard hockey fan; in that sport, a "breakaway" is when an offensive player breaks free of the defenders and rushes toward the goal. She believes breaking out of the pack is the best way to score for her clients.
